Tropical Rainforest Food Web
The Tropical Rainforest Food Web above represents the food web and transfer of energy through consumers in the Borneo Pygmy Elephant's habitat. The different levels of the food web show the levels of producers and consumers. The Sun at the bottom of the web is the primary energy source of the tropical rainforest biome much like it is in almost every other area around the Earth. On the second level of this diagram, you can see many different types of plants, these are the autotrophs or primary producers. They are the receivers of the Sun's energy which they get through a special process called photosynthesis where they absorb the Sun's rays and turn it into food. The third level of the food web shows the first level of consumers in the habitat, organisms that eat the autotrophs. Here, you will notice the Borneo Pygmy Elephant because it an herbivorous animal. Next, there is another level of consumers, these are the secondary consumers who eat the primary consumers and in a way, the primary producers also. Lastly, the final level of the food web represents the tertiary consumers that eat both the primary and secondary consumers, like the tiger feeding on the Borneo Pygmy Elephant.
